
NASA Aerospace Scholars requires participation in an online curricula covering past, present and future space exploration. Participants will be required to participate in chat sessions with subject matter experts where they will deepen their knowledge about NASA.
Each of the projects target students and educators who are interested in STEM studies. While each is unique to its state, they all include the same on-line curriculum where students engage in STEM topics related to Space Exploration. Selection for the on-site summer experience is based on application, participation in online activities and research. Upon completion of these lessons, the top performing students are invited to a unique spring or fall experience (community college projects) or summer (high school projects) where they have the opportunity to work in teams on a simulated human space exploration mission.
General Requirements of all programs:
The following are some common guidelines the NASA Aerospace Scholars projects require of their participants:
- U.S. citizenship
- A resident of the state applying to
- Minimum GPA requirements (varies by state)
- Math and science class prerequisites (varies by state)
- Currently a high school junior or community college student depending on program
- Interested in STEM
- Committed to a multi-month relationship with partner, including a designated spring, summer, or fall residential experience - depending on project
- Access to the Internet (home, school, or public library) and e-mail
Middle school educators go through the same application process as students. To be selected, participants are encouraged to integrate NASA instructional materials into existing classroom curriculum. Go to the state programs tab under NASA Aerospace Scholars/MAS for more information.
