Ferndale teacher named Ag Teacher of Year
The Distrit 1 Agriculture Teachers’ group has named Ferndale teacher Tony Torretta the Agricultural Teacher of the Year.
Torretta is now in the running for for the Washington Associationg of Agricultural Educators annual award.
Torretta teaches landscaping, metals, agricultural science and natural resources classes at Ferndale High School, but he also works with classes from other schools. He runs Project Pals, a mentor/mentee acitivity with second-grade classes from Central and Mountainview elementary schools. Torretta is also an FFA advisor and coaches an energy “Imagine Tomorrow” team that will compete at Washington State University this spring.
Torretta is also the district’s “Energy Czar,” running the district’s energy conservation program and monitoring usage outside of school hours.
